art of the start

I think you all know Guy Kawasaki, if your interest lies in tech-startups. Guy Kawasaki is renowned VC and startup specialist in silicon valley, who had kept a blog called How to change the world & published the book The Art of the Start: The Time-Tested, Battle-Hardened Guide for Anyone Starting Anything
Following is the presentation he’d given at TiECon in 2006 about the book, being entrepreneur and startups in VC’s perspective.
I know it’s bit old video but I’m re-watching it for some inspiration!

GMAT promo codes, voucher. Whats the fuss?

There’s been a lot of discussion going on about GMAT vouchers & promotional codes. And everyone seems to be clueless as no one exactly knows what’s this all about, neither they’re getting proper information from internet. But if it’s on official GMAT website then codes has to be there (somewhere floating around or only for some exclusive bunch of people). The reason for lack of information around the world wide web is this is a recent phenomena. It was not present earlier. Hence the post. 🙂

What is GMAT promotional & voucher code? where can I get it? How can I get it?

While registering a GMAT date at MBA.com when you check payment options you’d find two boxes at the bottom of the screen appear for GMAT promotional code & GMAT voucher.
1.] GMAT voucher can be obtained from your university’s financial aid office. You need to express your financial need & provide relevant documents to support what you claim. It’s your finacial aid office decides whether to avail the voucher to you or not.
GMAT voucher code is available & valid for selected nations or regions. (I’m not sure whether it’s available outside United States…)
2.] Secondly about GMAT promo code (promotional codes) these are nowhere to be seen. In my theory, if a certain company has partnered with GMAC to offer GMAT promotional code or discount, it should promote the promotional codes well; it should advertise the promotional codes in order to leverage the benefits of the partnership (or whatever.) So, to conclude I dont think there are any promotional codes out there (you do study Critical reasoning, dont you 😉 ). It’s may be the feature added (by web designer) they never used. (I vaguely remember that Kaplan might have such promo codes for their GMAT classes.)
But it’s a great feature to introduce. If GMAC hasn’t thought of use it yet, they should seriously think about it.

We, at Beat The GMAT, perhaps can use this promo codes for GMAT scholarship winners. I think it’s lot more safer, convenient and direct option to offer GMAT exam fees to winners than giving them ‘e-cash’ through paypal.

PS: I’ve figured out way to avail the GMAT voucher!

GMAT local, GMAT events near you.

Introducing GMAT study resources respective to your local area, event happening where you live.
Beat The GMAT has recently launched three features related to your regional/city specific GMAT needs.

  1. Directory of free GMAT events

  2. Directory of GMAT coaching classes near you (in your city)

  3. Directory of city threads of local study group

Let me talk about it in detail,
The live GMAT events are mostly (I am most certain that they are free) available for free, maybe a trial class or a free workshop hosted by big GMAT coaching institute or MBA admission consultant. Take a sneek-peek of a sample description of live events at North River Chicago by ManhattanGMAT. Then there’s region wise classification of GMAT classes (read: point no. 2). See, for example GMAT test prep courses abailable at NYC New York city.
You will notice that the first two links/points are only available for US of America. However, in future it would show events across the globe. We’ve seen overwhelming response to our Lets meet up forum & thus to make this easier for our members searching for the local study group, I’ve created a directory of city threads. Check out the thread, you’ll be surprised we’ve covered more than 70 regions (& still counting). People have formed study group and I think, they meet occassionally to discussi GMATF strategies and their MBA admission blues.
Exciting isn’t it? 🙂 So what are you waiting for? Find your regional thread for meet ups and more.

The inconvenient truth: Global warming by Al gore

Today, I just watched the award winning documentary by Al Gore. called “The Inconvenient truth”. & I just couldn’t stop myself to blog about it. (PS: I am shocked, thrilled and moved & I am gonna buy few DVDs of this film and distribute among my friends and closed ones. That’s the least I can do (for now).) My father had got the opportunity to watch it on the flight two years back & he insisted me to watch it too.. it’s highly recommended!! Although it’s bit late from me to watch it but as they say better late than never 😉
The problem is that people take this as a political issue & start debating over it with their prejudice mind. We should understand that it’s a global issue. beyond democrats or republicans, it’s beyond politics; it’s not pertaining to particular nation/country; it’s about our mother earth; it’s about global warming.
I’ve been conscious about this issue since my adolscence and more since I entered into engineering college. But from now I think I’ll make conscious and constructive efforts to change.
The documentary is so stimulating, inspiring and convincing that I am just gonna buy few DVDs of this film and distribute among my friends and closed ones. That’s the least I can do (for now).
And following is some more interesting material I can share: It’s the study material. Actually can be used in schools for 9-12 grade students But there’s no harm if you read and learn it; it’s fun 😉 But it’s recommended to watch the film first. For those who’ve already seen it, go ahead and share it; better print it. .I know we tend to forget thing a lot early than we believe. Apparently they have a dedicated website for this film: The incovenient truth
