GMAT local, GMAT events near you.

Introducing GMAT study resources respective to your local area, event happening where you live.
Beat The GMAT has recently launched three features related to your regional/city specific GMAT needs.

  1. Directory of free GMAT events

  2. Directory of GMAT coaching classes near you (in your city)

  3. Directory of city threads of local study group

Let me talk about it in detail,
The live GMAT events are mostly (I am most certain that they are free) available for free, maybe a trial class or a free workshop hosted by big GMAT coaching institute or MBA admission consultant. Take a sneek-peek of a sample description of live events at North River Chicago by ManhattanGMAT. Then there’s region wise classification of GMAT classes (read: point no. 2). See, for example GMAT test prep courses abailable at NYC New York city.
You will notice that the first two links/points are only available for US of America. However, in future it would show events across the globe. We’ve seen overwhelming response to our Lets meet up forum & thus to make this easier for our members searching for the local study group, I’ve created a directory of city threads. Check out the thread, you’ll be surprised we’ve covered more than 70 regions (& still counting). People have formed study group and I think, they meet occassionally to discussi GMATF strategies and their MBA admission blues.
Exciting isn’t it? 🙂 So what are you waiting for? Find your regional thread for meet ups and more.

GMAT lessons online free by Kaplan for BTG members

Hello dear GMAT students,
There’s announcement for all Beat The GMAT members out there who’re preparing for the test.
Kaplan is conducting live-online lecture session & if you’re a member of Beat The GMAT forums you’ll get the free pass for first lecture series of their online course. I think it’s  an introductory lecture, an overview of GMAT but will cover many fundamental yet important topics like how to make schedule  or GMAT’s structure & scoring pattern.
There’re three different time slots for your convenience check out the page for more details. (& you can post a reply on the forums for any query or further details)
The event will be live one on 2nd Feb andother two on 4th Feb. all three are kept in different time slots.
But there’s one necessary condition: you have to be the member of BeatTheGMAT forums. I know most of my readers are already members of that forum but just in case if you’re not register to the forums for free

New GMAT official guide 12th edtion soon to be released

Though it may not be the breaking news to all of you who keep up-to-date information about the GMAT and the happenings; the new edition of the famous GMAT guide, the official guide aka the bible of GMAT preparation will soon be out in the stores. Rumours were OG 12 will be available by the end of 2008. & as usuual it was expected to delay the publication by 2/3 months.

Now (?) the releasing date is officially disclosed and confirmed:
The official guide to GMAT review, 12th edition will be released in March 2009 (23rd of March to be precise). The other two official guides of GMAT, verbal and quantitative review will be released -shortly- after the distribution of OG 12th edition begins.

Although it had the press release some 2/3 months ago I somehow missed to write a post about it. Though I must have given some hints in the forums, I forgot to inform our Forums…
So most of you currently preparing for GMAT but have not yet booked the date for the test would wonder as to wait to new books or just to go ahead with earlier official materials…
Yes, thats the geniene question. And answer is not easy for such situation…
The ideal answer to the question: “when should you take the GMAT?” is “when you’re ready”.
If you’re currently in middle of your prep or more (ie. almost over with your preparation)  I presume by the time new edition of OG would come you should be completely ready for GMAT and thus in this scenario it’s not the good idea to wait OG 12. But if you’ve just started googling for GMAT or looking for GMAT study materials haven’t spend too much in books etc, and you don’t have a b-school application deadline coming, you can think of delaying your GMAT plans.
In a way so that you could give justice to new book, say at least a month after you buy 12th edition.
Actually I am so tempted to write more, more about OG & its credibility. But I’d rather direct you to the GMAT forum and ask you to search-n-seek.

mayonnai5e’s Errors & GMAT lessons learned:blog in threaded format

So what I am reading in my spare time these days?

mayonnai5e started his GMAT preparation on Beat the GMAT forums when I was on my Biiiiiiiiiiig-vacation. Therefore I couldn’t track his progress and so the thread, closely. Still I remember, I had put some comments whenever I saw his my blog errors and lessons learned thread. He, very meticulously wrote his GMAT progress “mistakes done n lessons learned” and end up producing some new strategies to attack GMAT test! Like Eric, he too started writing his daily progress about his ‘GMAT studies, tests taken, obstacles faced and new strategies adopted

One of the advantage of writing your GMAT test preparation progress in thread format over the blog is you make it more interactive! You can invite others to share their similar experience or solve your troubles. Mayonnai5e had Eric and Stacey K. with him on his GMAT journey.
Check out the whole thread (especially last few pages) and you’ll find some cool tips and analysis from Stacey K.
Stacey Koprince is one of the eminent GMAT teacher from Manhattan GMAT and resident expert at Beat the GMAT forums. (You can check out the detail profile of Stacey Koprince at manhattan.com)

1000 SC series RIP

This post is dedicated to the thread I once started to compile all the questions of 1000 SC document, which would be discussed on Beat the GMAT forums.

The purpose of starting the thread was not to encourage GMAT students to use 1000 SC document but was just to give them ready reference to the other threads where the respective question from 1000 SC are discussed in the forums. It was for benifit of forums’ members. But now it’s not a sticky maybe because of some reasons
The questions are taken from GMAT sets JJ. (which was once a product of ScoreTop.)
Beat the GMAT had not created that document is not associated with 1000 SC in any way. In fact this document is available for free even before BeatTheGMAT was born.

vhooosh!! I think I’ve talked a lot about these stuffs here, on my GMAT blog or on some GMAT related forums( TestMagic &/or BeattheGMAT). I cant help it as many people ask about 1000 SC, CR documents, their credibility, GMAT sets & then questions like what’s JJ or what’s GMAT sets… and all sorts of rumours or realities. I think I’ve had enough of replying or responding to it. It’s kind of banter chat and has no substance in it; so now I have decided not to talk about it anymore!

Oh yeah! that reminds me to one more “hot topic” of which I am really pissed off reading over and over again. May be I’ll talk about it on my next article .. perhaps for the last time. The topic is : first 8 question myth 😆
