New GMAT official guide 12th edtion soon to be released

Though it may not be the breaking news to all of you who keep up-to-date information about the GMAT and the happenings; the new edition of the famous GMAT guide, the official guide aka the bible of GMAT preparation will soon be out in the stores. Rumours were OG 12 will be available by the end of 2008. & as usuual it was expected to delay the publication by 2/3 months.

Now (?) the releasing date is officially disclosed and confirmed:
The official guide to GMAT review, 12th edition will be released in March 2009 (23rd of March to be precise). The other two official guides of GMAT, verbal and quantitative review will be released -shortly- after the distribution of OG 12th edition begins.

Although it had the press release some 2/3 months ago I somehow missed to write a post about it. Though I must have given some hints in the forums, I forgot to inform our Forums…
So most of you currently preparing for GMAT but have not yet booked the date for the test would wonder as to wait to new books or just to go ahead with earlier official materials…
Yes, thats the geniene question. And answer is not easy for such situation…
The ideal answer to the question: “when should you take the GMAT?” is “when you’re ready”.
If you’re currently in middle of your prep or more (ie. almost over with your preparation)  I presume by the time new edition of OG would come you should be completely ready for GMAT and thus in this scenario it’s not the good idea to wait OG 12. But if you’ve just started googling for GMAT or looking for GMAT study materials haven’t spend too much in books etc, and you don’t have a b-school application deadline coming, you can think of delaying your GMAT plans.
In a way so that you could give justice to new book, say at least a month after you buy 12th edition.
Actually I am so tempted to write more, more about OG & its credibility. But I’d rather direct you to the GMAT forum and ask you to search-n-seek.

Google friend connect

Playing with my blog is my past-time-hobby ( & I must confess I play more, blog less 😉 ).  In past I had made lot of efforts to make this blog more interactive & today I am introducing a new feature in the blog.
Yes, you can see the new box on the right column & see some people already joined it. & did I tell it’s Day 1 of this blog… 😀 (Obviously I asked them to join 😉 ) check this short and quick video to find out what exactly I am talking about:
Google Friend Connect is not just new for my blog but it’s new for the internet. It’s recently launched and has much to evolve. I’ll make it more interactive, may be enable facility to make comments or give 5 star ratings etc. But that depends on how this box grows at this site.
It’s in a way a small online/virtual social networking among the visitors of this site. So what are you waiting for? hit the “Join” button. If you’re a regular visitor, just do it. If you think you’re not gonna visit this site again, just do it leaving your footprints. Yeah, both ways “join” it’s hassle free. Now why I encourage you to join because it needs no-registration. All you need is already-existing-id with one of the big players: GMail, Yahoo or AOL. thats it.
It’s competition to mybloglog but I think google went a step ahead in terms of features, though they launched it later…

MBA Insider businessweek now free?

I used to visit Business Week website & read a lot b-school admission & MBA application & GMAT related content and even field service management.

However their cream content (read: best of businessweek bschool admissions section) was available only to premium/paid subscribers. & I used to stuck just there as I never subscribed to paid content.
It was (is) known as MBA insider. It’s an online magazine from BusinessWeek which you need to subscribe on yearly basis with 25-30 $. (Sorry, I dont remember the exact amount../ )  & now after  a long time when I visited businessweek.com I could browse the site freely without any subscription notice. This is strange. Have they made “MBA insider” free/open to all? Some time back I discovered their forums became open to non-members. thinking that, it could be an obvious move. But there’s a twist. I asked my senior at U.S. to have paid subscription of MBA insider for me. Funny thing is when I visited Business Week, I had prepared myself to start paid subscription but they dont make me pay now!!
I never used the password given by my friend from America but still been able to browse the premium content.
Now I’m confused & therefore I am making this post. Am I the only one (luck>?) who got this access? or all MBA aspirants from India get free access & our brothers from United States have to pay? Or it’s free for everyone?
In that case, why I dont see the subscription request page?
Do you know the url? if yes Please send  it to me alongwith snapshot… as url I know dont show any payment option. neither it blocks me from seeing premium content…
Thats funny.  I am tempted to say “who cares” but .. BusinessWeek are you listening?

Smile in the sky

Last night had a treat to the eyes as we experienced the get-together of the Moon, the Venus & the Jupiter.
Yes, if you remember my yesterdays tweet, you’d noticed that I mentioned that city people cant really enjoy such eyes treat. But this one was exception, it was clear and sharp that even in Mumbai people could take pictures & clips of the incidence.
But from rural place like Gholvad, of course I could see better; I wish I could take better photographs & upload them but they all were too shaky. I finally made a video clip of that which I might upload on youtube. but for time being you can enjoy this Clip from someone else.
If you’re curious to know which one of them is Venus & which one is Jupiter, I’ve some hints for you. Don’t be too smart to apply your books-knowledge here or go by figures & statistics & ‘sizes’. In reality, it’s exactly opposite ;).
Yeah! you guessed it right, ironically Moon is smallest among the three & Jupiter is largest still it looks weak…. for obvious reasons.

Indian IT MBA applicants, Google adsense & more

Some updates from my side.
I am leaving for a special course which will keep me away from cyberspace for 10-15 days. But before I leave I’ll add a new thread on the forums. It’s about Indian IT Males applying for MBA to various b-schools. Check it out in b-school in general section it will be up by tomorrow morning. (Done now. check it: Indian IT Males MBA applicants )
Also there are some changes I have done in my blog layout. I have removed “partner blog” part from the column. Also I have added list of recommended books for MBA preparation. I felt to add it as application season is coming soon it would be beneficial to the readers. I would recommend to buy these books. Some of the books will help you in long run, not only will help you during the application process but also during your actual MBA course. Well! you can check the amazon reviews if you don’t trust me.
And last but not the least: I have removed Google advertisements from this blog. I just said “not the least” right? it’s a big move from my side. I am worried if it hampers my blog writing motivation (?) But what the heck! I have decided to get rid of it.
Back to Indian IT Male thread,
I am looking for the right picture which could convey my message, which is what delaying this thread from its birth. It has made exclusively for Indian IT Males, one of the largest pool of MBA applicants each year who apply to various business schools. The trouble with these fellow applicants is their average GMAT score is higher than their counterparts. Yet they are so out-numbered than any other group of applicants that they are considered to be commons and hence their higher GMAT score doesn’t matter anymore.
Remember your high GMAT score can make you competitive and keep you in the race but lower GMAT score, especially for this group of applicants is detrimental & devastating for their application. Some times I think for Indian IT Males, higher GMAT score is a must, even though, ironically, it doesn’t matter to their profiles. Sorry if I confused you by that, you can post your doubts in that thread. Unfortunately I am not available since tomorrow & I am thus initiating thread and leaving it to our members J who would further take it. I’ll be back in 12 days by 22nd September 2008.
…Till then All the best for application. I know it’s coming close…
PS : I think I’ll start the thread anyways without uploading a picture. Although I still believe that adding a picture would convey my message even more clearly I think it can be added later…

Blog update

[Note: No GMAT prep content inside this article.]
It’s been pending since months. & I wanted to write GMAT blog blues since so long….
I know I know I am posting article here after more than six months.

I took a look at my blog & thought to edit it a bit. It was long overdue. There are some changed links, broken links & some new links addition to “in search of great GMAT links” article…
Also I am thinking of changing the tag name of “Editor’s choice” to “Best of the best” or “cream de la cream” this tag will be more appealing I guess. Or maybe I’ll add just another tag instead of removing the earlier tag.

In site tracking widget, I have removed sitemeter.com I used it for almost 18 months. Mean time I also used statcounter.com But somehow I dont find all features in one widget. (Perhaps that’s why I kept two tracking counters simultaneously for some time.) & juggling two counters is really bad option. Finally I am back to my good old gostats.com
It was the first counter I installed on my blog & to my suprised they still have kept that data when I signed in after 18 months. Now one week passed since I installed widget & it crossed 2500 mark. Funny thing is my total page views in 2006 were less than my last seven days traffic!
hahaha that means: last seven months in 2006=same traffic= last seven days.

There are some more updates in blogging front. I have set up one more blog, which I will be use as a daily (?) journal, a diary & downloads recommendations & review of the software.

Coming back to GMAT & MBA thingie. Let me tell you: there are two great articles about GMAT, which are pending & are stored in draft version to be published.
One is about Book Reviews & recommendation
& another one is Forums review.

The former one is obvious & I have been thinking of writing an exclusive article of GMAT materials (especially books) since quite some time.
About the latter, I always wanted to write a detail review about all GMAT related online forums available.
& I wanted to post it before this news. As I want it to be totally unbiased.

See you soon guys.
Stay tuned.

mayonnai5e’s Errors & GMAT lessons learned:blog in threaded format

So what I am reading in my spare time these days?

mayonnai5e started his GMAT preparation on Beat the GMAT forums when I was on my Biiiiiiiiiiig-vacation. Therefore I couldn’t track his progress and so the thread, closely. Still I remember, I had put some comments whenever I saw his my blog errors and lessons learned thread. He, very meticulously wrote his GMAT progress “mistakes done n lessons learned” and end up producing some new strategies to attack GMAT test! Like Eric, he too started writing his daily progress about his ‘GMAT studies, tests taken, obstacles faced and new strategies adopted

One of the advantage of writing your GMAT test preparation progress in thread format over the blog is you make it more interactive! You can invite others to share their similar experience or solve your troubles. Mayonnai5e had Eric and Stacey K. with him on his GMAT journey.
Check out the whole thread (especially last few pages) and you’ll find some cool tips and analysis from Stacey K.
Stacey Koprince is one of the eminent GMAT teacher from Manhattan GMAT and resident expert at Beat the GMAT forums. (You can check out the detail profile of Stacey Koprince at manhattan.com)

1000 SC series RIP

This post is dedicated to the thread I once started to compile all the questions of 1000 SC document, which would be discussed on Beat the GMAT forums.

The purpose of starting the thread was not to encourage GMAT students to use 1000 SC document but was just to give them ready reference to the other threads where the respective question from 1000 SC are discussed in the forums. It was for benifit of forums’ members. But now it’s not a sticky maybe because of some reasons
The questions are taken from GMAT sets JJ. (which was once a product of ScoreTop.)
Beat the GMAT had not created that document is not associated with 1000 SC in any way. In fact this document is available for free even before BeatTheGMAT was born.

vhooosh!! I think I’ve talked a lot about these stuffs here, on my GMAT blog or on some GMAT related forums( TestMagic &/or BeattheGMAT). I cant help it as many people ask about 1000 SC, CR documents, their credibility, GMAT sets & then questions like what’s JJ or what’s GMAT sets… and all sorts of rumours or realities. I think I’ve had enough of replying or responding to it. It’s kind of banter chat and has no substance in it; so now I have decided not to talk about it anymore!

Oh yeah! that reminds me to one more “hot topic” of which I am really pissed off reading over and over again. May be I’ll talk about it on my next article .. perhaps for the last time. The topic is : first 8 question myth 😆

BusinessWeek Forums made open for public

I may be quite late in finding this out but at least for me it’s ^the news^.
BusinessWeek Forums is now made open for all.
It’s the “CLASSIC” and one of the oldest & perhaps the largest and reputed online forums for related to MBA preparation and admissions.
Only problem with BusinessWeek Forum compared with other online forums was, it was only for its members. That means no guests were allowed see the content and the topic discussions of the forums. Today when I checked the site after almost an era, I could roam around without logging in!
Yes, that I think is significant move from BusinessWeek. They were actually stopping many of its prospective members by having “members only forum”. Many applicants still rely only on Google, BusinessWeek and of course, Webdesign499 through this site https://www.webdesign499.com/want-to-better-your-website-performance-read-these-top-seo-tips/.
It’s a welcome move from BW online!
