GMAT bloggers blues

I am all perplexed on my decision of upgrading my template to blogger beta.

I lost my sweet Haloscan I lost currency converter, amazon books store. 😐 I lost my sexy right column and now, I receive a comment from some anonymous poster that my google search feature is not working. 😡 damn!
Am I losing revenue now??

Well something has to be paid if you wanna make your weblog look neat and decent. But then, that’s the price I cannot affort. Not that I couldn’t make my blog layout like before; but, heck! I ll have to do all again.

I learned my bloogers friends Dave and Eric have not upgraded their blogs to blogger-beta. That’s a nice move (move???) they have made(made??).

I know I wont move to any other blogs provider since I don’t wanna change my url.

sigh! I never thought I would be discussing my haloscan problems in their forums and never thought I would check bloggers help.

Anyway, I am about to do some cleaning and rebuilding work on my blog. Will remove my PhD blog-list and will launch something new.

Stay tuned 🙂

Lets beat the GMAT!

This is post is just let you know I have started my GMAT preparation. Unlike Eric I wont publish my day to day log here on my blog; I know nothing can beat his blog whn it comes to GMAT study and strategy. ( though I might start GMAT lessons or something like that here on blog….) But I have started a thread called ‘lets beat the GMAT‘ on http://www.beatthegmat.com forums. There I would post my day to day study plan and my progress. …might help you if you want to see how a plan could work.

If you want a specific plan for yourself just hit the thread and tell me your requirement I will try to make one for you too.

When I started this blog I was not preparing for GMAT and I been saying this from my first post that I would be taking the test in Feb 2007. Last year before starting this blog I was almost finished with my preparation just to realise that I needed a passport to take the test.

I applied for one and today its in my pocket. I am all ready to prepare and take the test.

Lets beat the GMAT!

Reflection to MBA tour

My some of friends asked me to write some detailed account about the tour experience and my reflection on it.

So I am adding one more article here. You might find this bit rude but that’s the way it is.

The atmosphere in fair hall was supportive. I mean, you feel nervous before entering into the fair but once you have entered you are relieved.

You should avoid being idiot and ask stupid questions to the college representatives. Since the real turn off to the people standing on other side of stall is lack of preparation of visitors. You can learn a lot by simply overhearing the conversation.

Another turn off is when a visitor says that she hasn’t taken the GMAT yet. The representatives then fail to gauge your level and hence fail to give good advice. It also shows that you are not that serious candidate among all others.

Now on personal experience:

I was at Columbia desk for most of the time. No person from NewYork City had come to represent Columbia there. All people were Alumni settled in Mumbai. Couple of them were not present in the hall virtually. They were much bsuy attending their phone calls than attending visitors at their desk. 😉

The Alumni were trying to comment to visitors query as neutral as they could and ending up in no real, significant and informative reply. No inside info. The guy was even hesitant to reply-straight a question as simple as whether living in NYC is more expensive than other college campus.

But still it was an experience talking to real Alum of such a big shot school.

Some visitors were not aware how big the name Columbia is and thus asking questions like whether she would get a good placement after MBA from CBS. I moved to next desk
lol.

Some of the school representatives were so desparate to talk with visitors that they were literally calling each person and telling them about their university, giving them brouchers. And all. Yes I became a victum ot such college too. Now I have this broucher in my hand which I am not at all interested reading it. I have something better to do with this pamphlates. Yeah! I am in train right now. I am writing this (rough) article on this broucher. I don’t have a notebook to write.
Lol

time to wrap up.

Its time to move on.
Yeah! its time to say bye to the blog for some days …may be some months.
I really have to add some value to the blog before I quit blogging.
So have to finish Jack’s GMAT case study.
I apologise, those who have been waiting for my comments on Jack’s GMAT story.
I received good responce from one of the online boards i might publish peoples comments here.
But first i have to post the other unpulished parts of Jack’s story.
I earlier had some trouble with my PC, then with my blogspot then with my unpublished posts…(suddenly they disappear) & then with my inertia…
now i am done with all these i ll publish the remaining part by tomorrow.
Thankyou for your patience.
I know it was late from me publishing the case study… August end was the ideal time to publish that story.
Today if you read the case it might be too late since the application last dates are round the corner you cannot take risk now to analyse your GMAT mistakes or re-take it ….
of course it varies with case to case so just cut it.
Also a note for those who come here from Dave’s MBA weblog
Do not mis-understood and count me in race for MBA class 2009.
I have no intention to plan it this year & not for couple of more years …
I think, Dave added my blog link there because he didnt find any other suitable place for me
hee hee
I will be back by January 2007.
& will take the GMAT oh i mean Beat the GMAT.
till then all the best to all bloggers who are applying for next fall.
& all the best to all those who are going to take the GMAT.

Pagalguy turns four!

Ok now look at some stats:

Active Users: 200

Threads: 17,192
Posts: 568,705
Members: 81,036

The stats I have provided above and the website I am talking about is one of the most popular and populated youth forums website.
Yes, I didn’t say MBA-Admissions related forum site. I call it youth forum website.

Yes, four years ago the founder, Allwin (you can find his blog link on the bottom of the right column) might have started the site with the same intention: to provide CAT related discussion forum. And the scope of the site might have been restricted to CAT (Common Admission Test: entrance test conducted for Indian premium institutes like IIMs) related discussions; however today this site has gone beyond that… Beyond CAT, Indian MBA, beyond GMAT, and now international MBA. The website takes interviews of deans of various business schools.
Recently site published the interview of Mr. Caleel, Director of MBA Admissions and Financial Aid at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Oh yes apart from MBA business this site also do some charitable work. Check out touching lives forum there. I can go on & on but talking about Pagalguy.com in a single post is impossible. You just gotta check it.

I am very fascinated by this site. I started participating in the discussions lately. Since I am aiming for US-MBA my activities are(/were) restricted to two forums only. Which do not quite rock as compare to its other Indian-forums. If you see the numbers, when I say its not rocking, I mean the new thread started has just hundred visits in a day. Well that’s actually quite big number.
So I didn’t quite know the persons there. Then one day I came across this invitation thread.
I checked in.
And I attended the celebration too. Check out the thread you might see me there in the photos….(don’t expect some running man’s pic there… I don’t always run.)
I think I was the only fool who was wearing shirt and a trouser on the party day!!

Some vet-n-loyal people of pg shared some stories about what was there earlier and it is today…I actually had gone through a fantastic thread of history of pagalguy the day beforeand as I hv mentioned I hv done PhD in Allwin’s blog, so I knew the story already…

All the best wishes to Pagalguy.com

Lets get started

so so so
have started my blog for GMAT & beyond.
but what i am here for?
As i said this blog is inspired by Eric’s blog ( mentioned in my earlier post)
And believe me, Eric has almost become a celebrity now!!
Anyway,
i hv to do some html work here to provide you some links to interesting resources available on internet. Also
about the blogs i read and all///
you know everyone does that so i am
following trend, thats it.
Now the important questions:
why i am here?
why should you visit this place often?
what is my profile?
what makes me special so that you should read my blog regularly?
And what exactly i am going to present you?

whew! I am acting like an MBA marketing bloke 😉
what do we have here?
some clearing clouds business:
You can see I have MISSION IMPOSSIBLE ahead. My journey, my quest to find out the way to right business school. I hope this blog will accompany me in this uphill task. This blog will inspire me will act as the self-catalyst (some chemical engineering influence 😀 ) Keep me charged up all time.
I think I make very unique profile, that you would of course going to discover as we move along,,,
heres to start with
My profile:
I have just set up the consultancy firm for Chemical Engineering Designs with my friend.
I am an Entrepreneur. the another blog you can see is my daily ( not daily) diary and about the lesson i learned ( hv been learning) during my work-life.
I have not yet taken the GMAT test. I am planning to take it on Feb-March 2007.
I will be discussing GMAT strategies and my approach to beat it beat the GMAT!
I will also going to discuss beyond GMAT business, that is about the b-schools every famous b-shools takes, their essays & what i think about them.
so lets begint this journey.
LETS GET STARTED.

I am alone here…in bloggers park of MBA GMAT land :(

BLOGGING IS A TREND now (?);
and I am quite late in catching this particular trend …
So, I am, in this case, is a trend-follower.

…not that this is my first blog ever…
I started blogging through some other blogs since last three-four months @ blogger.com recently I found reading blogs very interesting.
Though I discovered the art of blogging as a trend some 2-3 years ago @ MSN spaces, but I didn’t like the concept then so I stopped blogging.

One more reason for me stop blogging is I was alone there, on the net world.
…Stranger in a strange new (shall I call web 2.0) world.
But now I realised that ‘you dont have to know a blogger in person to read his/ her blogs.’ Everybody is stranger here yet everybody knows quite a lot about other bloggers.

SO LET’S START BLOGGING.

The idea of blogging also came in my mind when I started reading Eric’s blog about GMAT preparation. …it’s very informative indeed. Later he (Eric ) formed a GMAT forum it’s a free community service, which is a noble work he is doing. Incidentally, I am a proud member of that community. I also contribute in that forum-site.

The league of MBA bloggers

Someday, I’ll add my blog to sir Dave’s “journey of my MBA” and to “the league of MBA bloggers”.

I know it’s not a big deal; you just have to post a request & thats it!
but I wont do that, today!
Today I’ll just write (oops I mean type) for fun.

So this is my first post to this GMAT blog for that magical word “MBA”
My other blogs represents my other side but this one, about my MBA pursuits is kept hidden.

…lets see!
where it leads to…you guys, give me some company!
