Get sparky

Get sparky to monitor the websites. the trend, how people surf each site, which page is more popular & to which page people go often once they visit a particular site. It’s fun to know which websites are top performing and has highest traffic/most popular in the country.(want a data for most popular websites in India? )
How you  can use the data from Alexa toolbar?: to analyse the web. Simple. For instance you’d be surprised to see Maps.Google.Com isn’t in top 10 places people go to Google!! Although it’s very very popular product (at least in US!)
So, download the toolbar & enjoy it’s features. It’s available for Mozilla Firefox as well as for MS Internet Explorer.
Alexa Toolbar (sparky) is perhaps the first toolbar available for IE must be since pre-Y2K era!! not sure though…

word of mouth ebook for grabs

What I’m reading currently?
Well it’s not a regular book, it’s an e-book, yeah this is the first time I’m getting some success in reading an e-book.
Thats why they say “easy read”, I think the book is an easy read as I could read it; otherwise I’d made thousands of attempts reading several ebooks but I somehow never read more than 10 pages of any ebook.
Word of mouth Manual

As you can guess from its title the book is about viral marketing or below the line marketing/advertising The book is easy read, written is plain English (avoided jargons). I liked the tone of this book it has subtle humor which you’d enjoy if you know what exactly author wants to convey.

This is offset to my blog title & not at all related to GMAT, but as I hinted some time back I want to make this blog more general and want to write about other topics I like… (so I would gradually reduce the font size of GMAT phrases in tag cloud 😀 ) haha, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop or reduce writing GMAT related articles, matter of fact it’s not going to get affected since I’ll still be using the proofread my essay services whenever I I am in a rush. I’d rather fill the gap between my articles and increase my posting frequency. Thats the point. … anyways enough of personal comments. I think I should add a ‘now reading’ category or tags now.

Actually I wanted to share it using Scribd, it’s ready preview feature so wouldn’t have to acutally download it. But they thought it to be inappropriate to upload such document so I had to upload it on my website server. It’s a shareware so feel free to distribute it to your network if you liked it.

Download my wordpress theme

I received some positive feedback about the theme I’m using on this blog. If you liked my wordpress I’m uploading it on server so that anyone can download it & use it.
Download the theme JohnyC.zip

It’s a 1000px width theme, I specifically coded as I believe visitors of my blog mostly have more than 1024 px screen resolution in width.
You can read the description of the them in CSS file once you post it on your workpress dashboard but some things I’d like to disclose about this theme.
I’ve modified someone else’s theme for my needs its optimised for Google Adsense. Google usually approves only 3 ad codes per page, two are already there in the script however there’s scope of adding one more Ad units say in sidebar to increase monetisation probability 😉
I’ll upload this theme in official WordPress.Org theme directory, once I get more time, writing proper info viz tags. etc.

GMAT promo codes, voucher. Whats the fuss?

There’s been a lot of discussion going on about GMAT vouchers & promotional codes. And everyone seems to be clueless as no one exactly knows what’s this all about, neither they’re getting proper information from internet. But if it’s on official GMAT website then codes has to be there (somewhere floating around or only for some exclusive bunch of people). The reason for lack of information around the world wide web is this is a recent phenomena. It was not present earlier. Hence the post. 🙂

What is GMAT promotional & voucher code? where can I get it? How can I get it?

While registering a GMAT date at MBA.com when you check payment options you’d find two boxes at the bottom of the screen appear for GMAT promotional code & GMAT voucher.
1.] GMAT voucher can be obtained from your university’s financial aid office. You need to express your financial need & provide relevant documents to support what you claim. It’s your finacial aid office decides whether to avail the voucher to you or not.
GMAT voucher code is available & valid for selected nations or regions. (I’m not sure whether it’s available outside United States…)
2.] Secondly about GMAT promo code (promotional codes) these are nowhere to be seen. In my theory, if a certain company has partnered with GMAC to offer GMAT promotional code or discount, it should promote the promotional codes well; it should advertise the promotional codes in order to leverage the benefits of the partnership (or whatever.) So, to conclude I dont think there are any promotional codes out there (you do study Critical reasoning, dont you 😉 ). It’s may be the feature added (by web designer) they never used. (I vaguely remember that Kaplan might have such promo codes for their GMAT classes.)
But it’s a great feature to introduce. If GMAC hasn’t thought of use it yet, they should seriously think about it.

We, at Beat The GMAT, perhaps can use this promo codes for GMAT scholarship winners. I think it’s lot more safer, convenient and direct option to offer GMAT exam fees to winners than giving them ‘e-cash’ through paypal.

PS: I’ve figured out way to avail the GMAT voucher!

DataFox updates

I wanted to make a post exclusively for this firefox addon called datafox. I was looking for the reason…
It’s very critical addon & comes very handy to monitor your bandwidth usage. It’s my most favourite add-on of firefox.
This applies to all BSNL’s & MTNL’s broadband subscribers. I know there are hell lot of you out there who use BSNL’s DataOne or MTNL’s triband.
It’s new version update 1.7 hence the post. If you dont have this addon  grab it now from the official site.
Note that this is a firefox addon & you need to use Firefox browser to leverage this monitoring tool.
(You can download the firefox by clicking on the its image on the right sidebar.)

Upgrade to Firefox 3

Last year I made a post promoting Internet Explorer 7. But I personally do not use MS ie7. Yes, it was recommended to those who still using old ie 6. Although there’re some features I like about internet explorer. They are not strong enough to stick me to MS IE. & during my Linux phases I had to use Firefox. It’s not a compromise actually, I prefer Mozilla firefox browser over any other internet browser. I had used Microsoft internet explorer 6, 7 & beta 8. (might add review of beta 8..) but I always liked Firefox. I love the browser so much that I in fact joined some groups and communities to spread the firefox. Yeah, can you see the firefox’s logo on the sidebar, which says upgrade to 3.0? yes they’ve provided it ;). And to my surprise, if I become one of the top referrer & selected from lucky draw, I’d get a firefox t-shirt!! This is fun!! 🙂 All you have to do is click on the button, download, install & use firefox. Of course you should use it if you like it. Choice is all yours.

Firefox is a cross platform (can be run on any system Windows, Mac or Linux ) internet browser. If you’re better than a newbie at computer operating or internet surfing, I hightly recommend you to have Mozilla Firefox. Well, if you’re not newbie or less than a average user, chances are you’re already using FIrefox. (so let me rephrase it) & if you’re wanna be an efficient net surfer I recommend using Firefox.

Multiple tabs & customised search engine are common options that come in browsers these days.

Some advantages of firefox are: it’s highly customizable. You can play with it add almost any feature you want. There are thousands of coders, developers / programmers out there who make plugins & addons just for you; which helps make efficient browsing. Take for instance I’ve installed a add-on called fireone which monitors my broadband internet usage. & warns me if I’m crossing (or reached near to) my bandwidth limit. It comes handy & I don’t have to log in to BSNL site time to time just to see the status.

That’s just one example; I might some time in future, post a list of add-ons I’ve added in firefox browser. & it’s a great advantage Firefox has got over all other internet browsers. There’re many other advantages like: I heard browsing is more secure & difficult hack. But the things that I don’t understand I don’t comment on. Anyways if the experts are commenting that it’s a secure browser, it has to be; as we seen some fatal issues with Microsoft’s internet explorer lately, I again highly recommend to switch or as they say “upgrade”.

IE get it now.

To begin the ‘download-review articles’ series. I have decided to start off with simple and most essential download.

I learned the 30% of visitors come to my sites are still using 6.0 version of IE. That means half of those who use Microsoft Internet explorer use the earlier (and obsolete) version of IE. I see no point in sticking with the browser which is 6 years (?) stale.

The new browser (oh even IE 7 is considered to be old now… 🙂 ) IE 7,  has lot of more additions; it is mo secure & faster & has many new features that MS IE browser was missing earlier.
Features such as: tab browsing and search slot at the top right side were lacking. Something Microsoft borrowed from opera and Mozilla firefox browsers.
I recommend everyone who use IE 6.0 or those who use windows XP and haven’t upgraded their browsers to upgrade it to IE 7. You can also do it by tuning Windows automatic udates ON.

I want to talk about some of the best and unique features that IE 7 version has which I think other browsers lacking.
1.] Feed reader allows you to read the content offline and at your leisure time. Although its broadband / DSL internet connection almost everywhere now and you rarely find dialup these days. ( I use dialup by the way) it comes very handy even if you have dedicated /always on internet connection. I think opera browser has this feature since ages. but firefox doesnt have this one.
2.] Costomised search slots.
Yes, ironically I heard Firefox is (most?) open source browser and you can do whatever you want to with it, but I see lot of feature “easy to usein IE.
For example I could add my favourite costomised search engine
scour.com to IE but not in Firefox. Heck! I can een hae Okut Seach using IE 7 without Google toolba  You can add itually any search engine from any site.
isn’t it cool?
So what are you waiting for? Get it now! It’s absolutely free!

Some disadvantages, I must mention: It’s available only for Windows XP SP 2 or higher versions of operating systems.
It still doesnt include spell check.
& lastly it doen’t stores the text if the application crashes. (which is a serious problem I think)
And application crashes quite often, btw!! 😉
But overall, I recommend this browser as it’s in-built; no hassle; comes free with Windows Vista & available free on automatic updates on Windows XP.
